Frequently Asked Questions

About SR CarnoSyn®

I’m using CarnoSyn®, why should I upgrade to SR CarnoSyn®?

SR CarnoSyn® sustained release beta-alanine is a superior delivery system of CarnoSyn® beta-alanine. Muscle cells can only absorb a fixed amount of beta-alanine in a short period; thus, when taking instant release beta-alanine the remaining beta-alanine is metabolized and/or excreted from the body. SR CarnoSyn® prolongs the supply of beta-alanine, therefore maximizing absorption and retention in muscle tissue, and it enables higher dosing with minimal to no paresthesia, improving peak performance.

What is Tetrad Matrix technology?

Tetrad Matrix technology is a proprietary microencapsulation process that uses a precise spray rate, temperature and flow time of insoluble, erodible and hydrophilic gel matrices to coat each CarnoSyn® beta-alanine crystalline particle. This proprietary process provides a sustained release profile that delivers beta-alanine over multiple hours for maximized absorption and retention in muscle tissues.

Does SR CarnoSyn® beta-alanine eliminate paresthesia?

SR CarnoSyn® features a sustained release profile designed to buffer paresthesia associated with instant release beta-alanine. Sensitivity may vary depending upon the individual and the dosage amount and variety of food intake prior to supplementing with SR CarnoSyn®.

What is the loading phase for SR CarnoSyn®?

Based on the latest research and scientific studies, the recommended loading amount is 179.2g of active. SR CarnoSyn® powder allows one to achieve peak athletic performance in as little as 28 days with a 6.4g/day active dose.

What applications are suitable for SR CarnoSyn® powder?

SR CarnoSyn® powder is suitable for use in dry dosage formulations – powders, tablets and capsules.

What are SR CarnoSyn® powder’s organoleptic properties?

SR CarnoSyn® powder is odorless and has a neutral taste in formulations.

Is SR CarnoSyn® powder soluble in water?

SR CarnoSyn®’s Tetrad Matrix technology ensures sustained release and slowed dissolution. The hydrophilic gel matrix is activated upon mixing into liquid. Viscosity tends to increase over time as hydrophilic matrix absorbs liquid and thickens. SR CarnoSyn® particles suspend in liquid upon mixing and may begin to settle after 15 minutes as hydrophilic gel matrix begins to densify.

Is SR CarnoSyn® considered a banned substance?

SR CarnoSyn® is not a banned substance and is not listed by any of the following authorities for banned substances: NFLPA, NCAA, MLB, WADA.

Is this material Non-GMO?

SR CarnoSyn® beta-alanine is Non-GMO.

Does this material have any allergens?

SR CarnoSyn® is free of major allergens.

What is the shelf life and recommended storage conditions?

Two year shelf life as long as it is tightly sealed and stored in a cool and dry location.

About CarnoSyn®

What’s the difference between CarnoSyn® and beta-alanine?

CarnoSyn® is the trademark name of beta-alanine. Beta-alanine is the generic name for the amino acid. NAI owns the CarnoSyn® trademark name and global patents for the use of beta-alanine in dietary supplements.

How does CarnoSyn® beta-alanine work?

CarnoSyn® beta-alanine is a non-essential amino acid that binds to histidine to form muscle carnosine.* Carnosine buffers, or neutralizes, the hydronium ions that lead to muscle fatigue and failure.*

Why is ingesting carnosine directly ineffective?

Ingested carnosine breaks down in the body into beta-alanine and histidine on absorption from the gut and only micro amounts are found in the blood stream. Research has shown that enough histidine is naturally present in the body to meet the demands of muscle for synthesis of carnosine, and that the limiting factor is beta-alanine. Beta-alanine supplementation augments the small amounts available from (1) synthesis in the liver, and (2) from the ingestion of meat and fish. Supplemental beta-alanine combines with the naturally occurring histidine to increase the levels of carnosine.*

Can customers combine CarnoSyn® beta-alanine with other supplements?

Yes. Users can take CarnoSyn® beta-alanine alone or in combination with other ingredients

Why do vegetarians need to supplement muscle carnosine?

Most individuals do not consume enough beta-alanine in their diets to increase athletic performance. And, because beta-alanine is most often found in meat sources, vegetarian athletes can have an even greater need to supplement beta-alanine levels.* The synthesis of beta-alanine in the liver, the only source available to vegans, is very low in humans and can only maintain low levels of muscle carnosine.

How does natural aging impact muscle carnosine levels?

As muscle mass decreases with age, so too do muscle carnosine levels. CarnoSyn® beta-alanine supports increased muscle mass, which can help maintain higher levels of muscle carnosine in aging athletes.*

How does carnosine synthesis occur?

Carnosine synthesis occurs in situ with beta-alanine combining with a second amino acid (histidine) to form a peptide bond through the action of muscle-located carnosine synthase.

Does CarnoSyn® beta-alanine contain any banned substances?

No. CarnoSyn® beta-alanine is safe and contains zero banned substances.
